It’s April, and with a new month comes some new titles. There’s a lot of fresh series starting this month, so it’s great for picking up new series. Without further ado, here are our picks for new releases in April 2018!

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, a mouthful of a title, is Inio Asano’s newest work. Asano, best known for penning Oyasumi Punpun, is back this time with a sci-fi title. Aliens are invading Tokyo, and in the midst of it all are two girls who want to live out their high school lives to the fullest. The introspection and focus on the darker sides of human nature are in full view, as per Asano’s touch, and produced something truly unique.
Promised Neverland 3 also hits the shelves. I recently caught up on the Japanese volumes and to add onto all my praise from earlier reviews—this is probably one of the strongest series running in Jump at the moment. Every volume is jam-packed with plot twists, strong characters, and intrigue, and this volume is no exception. The mental battle between the children and Mama continues, as they remain desperate to find out a way to escape.
The second volume of Umineko: Requiem of the Golden Witch also comes out this month. This volume delves into the heart of the story, as we finally see the past of the true culprit. All of the mysteries, why the Witch came to exist, the environment that created a horrible crime; all are revealed in this volume. While there is more to come in the seventh arc, this volume contains the true meat of the mystery.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes drops its sixth volume. While this isn’t a manga, but rather the novel translated into English, it’s a must-buy for any fans of anime space operas. LGO has it all, flashy space battles, political intrigue, and a ton of backstabbing. Definitely worth picking up. Also, the reboot of the original anime, Die Neue These, just debuted on Crunchyroll.
A longtime fave of any anime fan, Cardcaptor Sakura, comes out with a third volume of the new Clear Card Arc. While Sakura is collecting more of the new cards, her enemy is still unclear. The anime of Clear Card is also continuing on into the spring season, so fans can have both the detailed art of the manga and the flashy movements from the anime.
I’m A Spider, So What? comes out with its second volume of manga. This title is a fun one because it turns the idea of a male protagonist in a fantasy world on its head by instead grabbing a girl- and shoving her into the body of the lowest mob monster. A spider can’t do much, so she has to use her smarts and ingenuity to survive in this new world. Since most fantasy transfers revolve around having overpowered abilities, this series doesn’t fall into that trap as much and instead uses intelligence to conquer.
Wotakoi is an office comedy, with a perfect match. The two protagonists are both nerds in their own ways, with one as a doujinka and the other as a gamer. While it’s a long-held stereotype that otaku can’t find romance, this series plays off expectations to make a wholesome story about love and being a nerd. is also getting an anime adaptation this season, which should have started last week.
Perfect Blue: Awaken From a Dream isn’t a sequel to the original novel, but rather an anthology from the same world. Similar to the Ghost in the Shell short story collection, this allows a variety of writers to dig into the mysterious world of Perfect Blue, and present their own takes.
Assassination Classroom releases its final volume, finishing up at 21 volumes. This hilarious action series has spanned across a whole year, and the students face their graduation anew. A great end to a fun series.
