The new releases for March 2018 are all strong, coming in with some returning fan faves, as well as the first volumes of several new series. The weather’s still pretty wonky, but there’s always new stuff to get into! Here are our top picks for the month!

First off is a different kind of comedy that comes in the first volume of Kaguya-sama: Love is War. It revolves around two classmates who really want the other to confess, but they’re both way to proud to do so. As a result, they go through all sorts of contortions just to get each other to confess. It’s the most over-the-top romance manga that I’ve seen, and is absolutely hilarious. If you love things that are incredibly extra, this is for you.

Continuing the publication of Devilman spinoffs comes Devilman vs Hades. This story is a little different, as it depicts an Akira that survives, and continues his fight elsewhere. Akira descends into the underworld, and searches for Miki’s soul. A neat crossover between Devilman and Mazinger, worth picking up as we all wait for the original series to come out.

The Girl From The Other Side releases its fourth volume, and it continues to be masterful. Nagabe’s art is top-tier, and his dedication to space and the loneliness it evokes makes each volume a piece of art. The story is slow and haunting, but this is an incredibly strong series overall. Highly worth picking up.
Land of the Lustrous also comes out with volume five. This is another series that’s heavily dedicated to introspection and space, so it’s very visually detailed. I’d say that this dedication really shines in the manga, as opposed to the anime. With Phos’ loss of self continuing to pile up and twist things further, each volume is a treat in how it delves into the quiet chaos building between the gems.
The fifth volume of Kiss and White Lily For My Dearest Girl comes out, and with it, the tale of Ayaka and Yurine continues. This series is particularly sweet, and delves into the romance between the two girls, as well as seeing if it can persist. Well written and lovely, perfect for any gl fan, but also those seeking tender stories.
A longtime favorite, Hunter x Hunter, is also back with volume 34. Thanks to Togashi’s health problems, the series is constantly going on and off hiatus, even with the series’ widespread popularity. As a result, it’s always a long wait between volumes, but it’s a wait that’s absolutely worthwhile. This volume features a fight that’s been coming for a long time: the match off between Hisoka and Chrollo.
The second volume of I’m a Spider, So What? is released at the end of the month. This is a funny series, but also puts a spin on the ‘normal teenager is whisked away to be the protagonist in a fantasy world’ type series. However, the protagonist is a girl, and is also put in the body of the lowest level monster. She has to figure out of the rules of the world to survive. This type of light novel is so commonplace these days, so to have a fresh spin on it is really refreshing.
That’s our top choices for the month! Let us know if you decide to pick any up!
