With a new year comes a new slate of retro cinema hitting North Carolina’s Triangle area. Check out what’s in store with Cup Of Moe’s Triangle area classic cinema guide: January 2018 edition!
In Durham, the Carolina Theatre hosts its Retro Film Series on Friday evenings. Friday, Jan. 5 2018 sees “The Bishop’s Wife” paired with “The Man Who Came to Dinner.” An action-packed double feature of “First Blood” and “Die Hard” hits the big screen on Jan. 12. Tune in on Jan. 19 for a horror-tinged romp with “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Christine.” The Nevermore Film Fest fundraiser double feature of “Serenity” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Flashback Cinema brings retro goodies to box offices. Check out “Die Hard” on Jan. 3, and yes, it is a holiday film. Jan. 7 and 10 see “Sabrina,” with a magical showing of “Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets” on Jan. 14 and 17. Then, sci-fi classic “Alien” gets the cinema treatment on Jan. 21 and 24, with Southern epic “Gone with the Wind” on Jan. 28 and 31. You can catch Flashback Cinema screenings as Chapel Hill at Silverspot as well as Park West 14 in Morrisville, and Wakefield 12 in Raleigh.
Make it a movie night at the museum with the North Carolina Museum of Art’s Winter film series. Watch “The In-Laws” on Friday Jan. 5. Then, “The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki” screens on Jan. 19. Finally, close out the month with “Il Boom” on Jan. 26.
In Raleigh, Ambassador Cinemas shows “The Godfather” on Jan. 5 as part of its Monday at the Movies series. Cinema Overdrive presents “What Have They Done to Your Daughters” on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Cary Theatre.
Fathom Events brings classic movies to select Triangle cinemas. Revered “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” plays on Jan. 14 and 16.
