NCIS New Orleans” season 6 episode 19 “Monolith” finds Special Agent Sebastian Lund (Rob Kerkovich) and NCIS Investigative Computer Specialist Patton “Triple P” Plame (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell) attending a cyber warfare and security summit. Patton and Sebastian witness a kidnapping, and being the NCIS Special Agent and REACT team member that he is, Lund attempts to stop the assault. Despite an impressive show of martial arts, Sebastian is thrown down a flight of stairs and injured. As such, he’s sidelined for the investigation. Special Agent Hannah Khoury (Necar Zadegan) arrives at new guy Special Agent Quentin Carter’s (Charles Michael Davis) apartment only to be greeted by Carter’s “friend” Audrey (Jasmine Batchelor).

Khoury, Carter, Special Agent Dwayne “King” Pride (Scott Bakula), and Special Agent Tammy Gregorio (Vanessa Ferlito) fill in while Sebastian is laid up. Gregorio dotes on Lund, sneaking him as many lime-flavored Jell-o cups, his favorite flavor, as she can. And  Jefferson Parish medical examiner Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder), warns Sebastian to stay in the hospital despite his protestations. The NCIS NOLA team discovers that the kidnapped victim is Norah Moncado (Shai DeBroux) but their investigation is halted by Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Agent Winchester (Cory Hart). Winchester and Khoury have a past, with DIA Agent Winchester as a professional swooper arriving conveniently at the last minute to take all the credit. However, DIA teams up with NCIS, although initially reluctantly, once the NOLA outfit turns up valuable intel.

Observations:

“NCIS NOLA” S067E19 “Monolith” finds the NCIS squad racing to find a rogue DIA agent with a top-secret program called Monolith. DIA Agent Winchester proves a slight obstacle in the investigation, though he ultimately collaborates with NCIS.

Khoury and Carter play prominently into the story of “Monolith.” Ever since joining the team, Carter has remained aloof, a quality evident even in his apartment which is decidedly sterile and devoid of anything personal. Quentin refrains from developing relationships with his fellow NCIS co-workers, and eschews romantic partnerships as well. But episode by episode, Carter appears to open up and a rapport begins developing between Khoury and Quentin.

NCIS Deputy Director Van Cleef is poised to leave NCIS to become the Chief of Naval Operations for DoD. Earlier, Van Cleef demoted Khoury under mysterious circumstances. With the breaking news of Van Cleef’s promotion, Hannah calls in a favor with Winchester, requesting any info he has on Van Cleef. Although Winchester warns “are you sure it’s wise to go kicking that hornet’s nest?” Khoury remains persistent. It’s clear that Van Cleef is dirty, but yet uncertain how so. I’m excited to learn more about the Van Cleef storyarc. Likewise, Agent Carter continues to mature and develop as a complicated character.
